BACK PAIN, CAUSES AND REMEDIES

Know Your Back

The back is a well-structured linking joint area. Nerves, vertebras, ligaments, and muscles function together to provide support, stability and flexibility to your back. However, with all these functionalities, the neck and lower back are prone to injury and pain.

The spinal column or backbone is one of the strongest parts of the body. As we grow older, these structures, such as the discs, ligaments, and joints, become weaker. Your back might get stiff due to wear and tear, injuries and illness may occur.

About Back Pain

One of the biggest reasons why many people visit the massage therapist is backache. However, a further diagnosis can be carried out by your family doctor via a test or an imaging study. There are different causes of backaches; some are through injury, accident, medical conditions, etc.

Back pain that persists for weeks can be caused by a fall or heavy lifting. Acute back pain is less joint; this usually spans for as long as six months. Staying active and exercising will help relieve your back pain while supporting it with painkillers. It is advisable to continue with your daily activities and keep moving; too much rest can worsen your back pain.

Luckily, there are preventive measures for back pain. However, if prevention fails, there are simple home remedies for reducing your back pain in a few weeks. For back pain, surgery is rarely needed to treat it.

Note that consistency is the key if you stop stretching once your backstops are paining you, all the improvement you’ve made will disappear within a few weeks. So, it is crucial that once you start any form of the backstretch, you continue even when the pain is gone. If you have any complaints, contact your doctor immediately. You might be referred to a physiotherapist who will design an exercise routine safe for you.

Back Massage Therapy

Massage therapy can provide significant healing and pain relief for many back problems, especially if a strain in the back causes it. With massage therapy, the right muscle will be aimed, and the pain will be a controller at its source. This therapy provides a faster and lasting relief to pain.

With back pain, two major muscles are targeted. They are:

  • Quadratus
  • Gluteus medius

The muscles mentioned above play an important role in alleviating and supporting the lower back and hips. In some instances, there is a change in the structure of these muscles due to fatigue or strain. It can result in stiffness of the back, decreased mobility, or lower back pain.

Massage therapy is relatively safe, and many patients find the Swedish massage technique helpful. The Swedish massage, also known as the relaxation massage technique, involves long gliding strokes and kneading motions to specific pain points. This relaxes the tensed muscle that can improve flexibility, reduce pain caused by tight muscle, and aid sleep.

The neuromuscular therapy, which is referred to as trigger point myotherapy, has been recognized as an effective treatment for back pain. If your back pain is as a result of an injury, sports massage or deep tissue massage is recommended. With the help of your massage practitioner, you should be able to manage your back condition effectively.
